Placement of Children in Class Groups Procedure
November 2006
The placement of children in class groups is a responsibility taken very seriously by the staff of Our Lady of the Assumption School
and is undertaken in consideration of the following criteria:
• Most appropriate learning environment for the individual child;
• Peer relationship placement appropriate to the individual's learning needs;
• Most effective use of school resources (human and physical);
• Balance of boys and girls across the class group, according to the ratio of boys to girls at each year level;
• Balance of learning styles and individual's learning needs.
Students may experience placement in multi-age year level classes at some stage throughout their primary schooling at OLA.
If there is a need for a consultation regarding a child's placement in class, this is to be directed to the principal in writing.
The final responsibility for class groupings rests with the Principal.
